Every Christmas, Dee Brantley, who is suing Wal-Mart and the developer who built a superstore in her backyard in Lake Charles, Louisiana, ruining the quiet enjoyment of her home, sends us a little Christmas cheer in the form of an anti-Wal-Mart song. Brantley used to have a beautiful woods in her backyard, with 27 racoons, but now she has the constant noise and light from the Wal-Mart supercenter, complete with loading docks facing the neighboring homes. Here’s Dee’s song for this holiday season, with some verses added by Sprawl-Busters:
I’M DREAMING OF A QUIET CHRISTMAS
I’m dreaming of a quiet Christmas,
just like the ones not long ago,
when our forest still glistened,
and we could listen
to racoons romping in the snow.
I’m dreaming of a quiet Christmas,
without the Wal-Mart superstore,
with no truckers beeping,
and neighbors sleeping,
loudspeakers not blaring through our doors.
I’m dreaming of a quiet Christmas,
no RVs idling hours on end.
No more Chinese imports,
or foul-mouthed retorts
from workers yelling to their friends.
I’m wishing for a quiet Christmas,
the peaceful life we used to know.
They are not good neighbors,
they abuse cheap labor,
leave business shut down or foreclosed.
I’m dreaming of no Wal-Mart Christmas,
when their whole empire turns to dust.
May our wins be often and bright,
with no Wal-Mart superstores in sight!
