Local residents report that the city of Norman, OK (pop) 90,000, which already has a ‘normal’ Wal-Mart, is slated to get two new Wal-Mart supercenters: one on the west side of the city near the interstate. City Councilors have reportedly said that since the land is already zoned commercial, there is nothing they can do to stop the projects. Wal-Mart allegedly wants the city to do $300,000 worth of road work at taxpayer’s expense to make the project viable. A change in the Master Plan for the city is also required. Residential properties and subdivisions are located very near to the project. The existing Wal-Mart, which is reportedly less than ten years old, will be closed.
