Residents in Mokena, Illinois were not thrilled with the prospect of a Wal-Mart supercenter, but they were thrilled to learn this week that the giant retailer has withdrawn from a real-estate deal in their town. Wal-Mart had contracted to buy 31 acres, but the deal collapsed because the seller wanted to add new conditions to the contract, Wal-Mart said. “We hope we can eventually come to terms with the seller or find another site to build a new store,” Wal-Mart said.
The retailer was quick to add that it has not lost interest in Mokena, but opponents of the company hope that Wal-Mart will just get lost.
