The Arkansas Democrat Gazette filed a story on October 28th. that Wal-Mart, the wealthiest retail corporation in the world, with nearly $9 billion in profits last year, has filed a lawsuit charging that American taxpayers owe them a $1,400,000 refund on the company’s phone bill taxes. Wal-Mart says it was not required to pay the $1.4 million in phone excise taxes. The lawsuit against the IRS was filed this week in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas in Fayetteville, the suit claims that, according to U.S. law, only phone services that charge based on call distance and duration are taxable. Wal-Mart’s phone service only charged the company based on call duration, the suit states.
When Wal-Mart says the IRS owes them a refund, that means the American taxpayer has to fork up the money back to the corporation. We, the taxpayers, will also have to pay for the legal bills this lawsuit will cause. For other examples of Wal-Mart tryng to lower its tax bill, search this website by “taxes”.
