According to news reports from Lauderhill, FL, 29 year old Denise Williams turned to Wal-Mart for help, with unfortunate results. Williams was abducted by her 39 year old estranged husband, Byron Williams, when he forced her into his car and drove her south to a McDonald’s in Miramar. Denise tried to flee the car, but was caught and forced back into the vehicle. At the County Line Road, Williams again managed to roll out of the car, but her husband pushed her back in again. According to police accounts, Byron Williams then stripped off Denise’s clothes, leaving her dressed in just undergarments. She then talked Byron into driving her to Wal-Mart to buy her more clothes. When they arrived at the Wal-Mart, Byron went in to get Denise clothes, and the woman made an escape. After telling the Wal-Mart security guard and the Wal-Mart store manager about her situation, “both refused to help her and told her to get back inside the car”, according to media reports. Her husband returned and forced Denise back into the car for at least the third time, and drove off. “No one called the police” said the media. The incident ended at the Holiday Inn, where Byron allowed Denise to czll her family and say she was OK. The entire event, including the stop at Wal-Mart, stretched out over 6 hours. Byron Williams has been charged with false imprisonment, felony and simple battery and aggravated assault. It was just another shopping day at Wal-Mart.
You won’t see Denise Williams featured in any Wal-Mart TV ads about all the wonderful things that Wal-Mart does for the community. Wal-Mart says “shoppers can expect service with a smile”. Let’s hope Denise Williams got a smile when she visited their store, because she sure didn’t get any servioe from her neighbors at Wal-Mart.
