According to a UPI wire story dated December 10, 1998, there was some trouble in a Home Depot parking lot in Clay County, Florida. Investigators from the county Sheriff’s department indicate that a woman by the name of Jing Jerky was coming out of a Home Depot to her car when she was approached by two men who hit her, forced her into her car, and then drove off with her. Readers of this newflash are familiar with similar kidnapping cases in other superstore parking lots. In this case, the woman apparently managed to get the front door of her car open, and jumped out of the moving car. In the process, she broke her pelvis. Ironically, Jing Jerky is a Home Depot employee who was going to her car for some food. The UPI reports states that the Home Depot “lot is well lit, but has no security guards.” According to Home Depot, the manager of the Orange Park store told the media that the company will walk employees to their cars on request. Jerky’s car, and the suspects, have still not be located. Customers of Home Depot have often contacted Sprawl-Busters to complain about being injured inside the store. But sometimes the parking lot of big stores is equally unsafe — for consumers and employees alike. As Home Depot likes to say to communities: Good Things Happen at Home Depot. Just ask Jing Jerky!
