A female police officer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana was shot dead this past weekend while working extra duty at a Wal-Mart store, along with two other victims. The store workers were shot while trying to apprehend a shoplifter at the Wal-Mart on Perkins Road about 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 22nd. A security guard and a customer were helping the officer in apprehending the shoplifter. The assailant fled the store and carjacked a white, four-door 1996 Chevrolet Corsica. Police sealed off the area, keeping customers inside the store and preventing others from entering, until about 12:30 a.m. The police officer was shot and killed with her own weapon Witnesses told reporters at the scene that the officer had gotten handcuffs around one of the wrists of the suspect when he started to struggle and managed to grab the officer’s gun. After firing several rounds, the suspect, with cuffs still dangling from one arm, ran out to the parking lot and seized a customer’s car at gunpoint.
