HERE’S THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE WAL-MART SUSTAINABLE.

There is only one way to make Wal-Mart sustainable: block their superstore sprawl.

That???s exactly what has just happened in Miami yesterday. A federal judge in Florida has issued an emergency injunction that literally forced a developer to stop bulldozing trees to make way for a Wal-Mart superstore. A coalition of 4 environmental groups filed the injunction to save the pine rockland forest near the Everglades National Park.

The Judge ruled that the petitioners are likely to win their case against the development. The groups seeking a to halt to construction of the Wal-Mart mall include the Center for Biological Diversity, the Miami Pine Rockland Coalition, the South Florida Wildlands Association, and Tropical Audubon.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Division had signed off on the developer???s conservation plan, but the judge???s order says continuing the project would do irreparable harm to the pine rocklands.

This land was at one time owned by the federal government, which gave it to the University of Miami. The school ultimately sold the land to a private developer for $22 million. The developer then proposal 900 apartments and a mall anchored by a Wal-Mart.

“We are elated,” a spokesperson for the Center for Biological Diversity told Fox News. “The judge’s order has given these plants and animals and the residents of this community an opportunity for their day in court, an opportunity to have justice upheld, and a fighting chance at survival.”

This case is far from over, but for today, environmentalists have taught Wal-Mart a real lesson in sustainability.
