AMAZON FLAMED OUT IN QUEENS, but neighbors in tiny Schodack, NY are still appealing in court to block 113 vacant acres from becoming a 1 M sf Amazon warehouse???which town officials & the media call a ???fulfillment center,??? because warehouses are not permitted in the zone Amazon chose.
The developer wants $13.7 M in tax breaks. Elected officials have shown little of the anger that erupted in NYC over the AMZN subsidy deal. Town and county officials have fought against the taxpayers who are fighting this massive project, who took on the name Birchwood Association.
Amazon refuses to reveal itself as the tenant, or to confirm that it will purchase the warehouse when it is done.
Meanwhile, 98 miles away in Montgomery, NY, another developer is seeking to build another huge warehouse that is code-named Project Sailfish, but which is widely believed to be an Amazon project???raising the speculation that Amazon will eventually pick one or the other site, whichever becomes the sweetest deal for the online retailer.
