The Attorney General of Texas has filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart, charging that the company has been deceiving the public about the economic value of a phone calling card it has been selling from its Sam’s Clubs. According to John Cornyn, AG for Texas, the Sam’s Club 2 hour telephone cards really only provide 40 minutes of actual talk time when used from a pay phone, because of various fees that apply. The AG said the Wal-Mart company’s cards are deceptive, because they did not advertise the real talk time value of the product.
You hear alot from Wal-Mart about price. But price means nothing in the absence of value. In this case, the AG felt strongly enough about the misleading value of this Wal-Mart product that he filed suit against the company. So if you’re looking to talk long distance, you better take a long look at what Wal-Mart is offering the public.
